Regression theory in statistics is the idea that we can take a number of factorsand work out how it influences the characteristicsof a certain object or system. And we could have a similar approach in horse racing. We could say, well, let’s just supposethis box is the performance of the horse. And we have lots of different bits of past data. And we could say, well, maybe each one of these bits of dataexplains some amount of the horse’s performance.Of course, this is a bit simplistic, really, isn’t it.Because just like with the characteristics of inheritancewhere, for instance, some of the variationis explained by the parents that are alsogoing to be shared with the grandparents, the characteristics of a horse– these featuresare going to overlap. Some of these will explain multiple aspects. So these kind of things are goingto be a bit more jumbled up.And what’s more, we might not be able to explainall of the horse’s performance. Find more game theories at CasinoSlots.
There might be some chunk which we still can’t explain. And really the aim from a statistical point of view isto try and minimise this unknown quantity. And there’s actually– in the ’80s, Bill Benter visitinga library in Nevada came across a paperby two researchers called Ruth Bolton and Randall Chapman. They work in marketing. They still do actually. And they had essentially outlined this methodfor horse races, this approach of converting datainto some kind of measure of performancethat you could use to make predictions. And as Bill said, it was the ideathat sowed a multibillion pound industry– an incrediblyimportant piece of research. And actually for Ruth Bolton, it was the only papershe wrote about horse racing. It’s during her PhD.And it was really kind of a side project. But this had a huge impact on this industry. And on doing the analysis of those early syndicates in HongKong, certain things would come out as more important. For example, in one of their early bits of research, the number of races a horse had runwould tell you a lot about how it’s going to do.And it’s tempting to come up with a story for that.We say, well, if it’s run more races, then it’s going to be more experienced. And then that’s going to give it a betterperformance in the next race. But they actually avoid doing that, because really they know it’s a jumble, that all of these things are going to overlap and explainone thing.
And it’s not clear that just because something is important,it has a direct explanation. This quite common problem in statisticsis known as this idea that correlation doesn’t alwaysmean causation.Just to give an example, here we have along the bottomis the wine spend per year at the Cambridge colleges. On the vertical is the exam results. So as you–[LAUGHTER]As you can see, there’s a pretty strong correlationbetween colleges that spend more on wine have better results. And this isn’t the only thing that’s happened.Actually it turns out that countriesthat have a higher per capita spend on chocolatetypically win more Nobel Prizes. As lovely as it would be that eating chocolate would make youa Nobel Prize winner and drinking winewould make you better at exams, there’s clearlysomething else going on.

Ingame TAhas it strengths too because this was the first game which used real physics so projectiles get further when the have the advantage of wind and/or height. Yes the game has that, it has wind and it uses the most accurate height physics used until today. Cars can’t go up certain hills and the same goes for the walking bots, but you get an advantage using high grounds. This gives a whole new meaning to gameplay because now you can use even more tactics to win a battle.
Graphics: Even for today’s standards the game looks good. Great explosions, flying debris the fact you can see height in the landscape you can all find it here it’s just incredible. And best of all the game is 4,5 years old at the time of writing and it supports resolutions up to 1600×1200, absolutely amazing. The textures are great and all the animation runs smooth.
Personally I still believe Total Annihilation has one of the most impressive starting movie I have seen.
Sound: Another point where Cavedog went totally on their own way. Instead of putting in rock music or techno to make it catchy for the younger gamers between us they choose for the classical orchestra. You have to get used to it in the beginning though but after you get over the first step then you will know why they used this. Atmosphere 100% atmosphere, the bombastic music creates a more dramatic feel to the game. As a result the gameplay will even become more intense than it already was. Another advantage is the fact that this classical approach has little effect over the years instead of modern types of music which are heavily under change when time goes on.
The effects appartment did a great job too with the cool explosive and laser sounds. Just slam the volume on 10 and let the rest of the city join the mayhem you are starting 🙂
Personally, the only Castaway-like games I ever really played were: Sims Castaway, Virtual Villagers, and The Villagers. But unlike Under the Ocean, in those games, you’re basically taking care of a group of people so it’s more like Lost than the solo adventures of Tom Hanks and his inanimate buddy, Wilson. Needless to say the solo survival aspect of Under the Ocean intrigued me while its aesthetics and features hooked me. In terms of other games sharing the same genre, it has revamped some features in the game and for me personally, made them unique in its own way. I know that’s pretty vague so I’ll get on with the review for y’all you lovely readers.
First Impression and Gameplay
I am sorry Mr.BlueMan! I didn’t mean to hurt Yououuu
Pleasing to the eyes and ears this game is (Yoda voice)
I fire up the game and was greeted by a beautiful melody in the background. In my opinion, its serene yet melancholic which I think is perfect for the game. I know I can listen to it all day everyday. I was given 3 options to choose from: Base Game, Free Build, Random (New feature).
Possibly one of the prettiest mode selection interface I’ve ever seen 😡
Base Game: Normal mode pretty much. You explore the island, craft and survive with the items you can scavenge and eventually try to get home.
Free Build: Go cray cray with building whatever the fudge sticks you want! You’re pretty much set in terms of materials. Think of the creative mode of minecraft except instead of having all the items in a nice window, the items in Under The Ocean basically gets dropped on your cranium. As you keep walking on, every new destination has a different mine of materials.
I hope you look forward for the next part of this review! I appreciate your response guys! Love you all!
Could poker and especially online poker be one of the most misunderstood games in history? Many people think there is too much mystery, hype, and secrecy attached to this game when really it is all about getting the best hand. There is no esotericism surrounding online poker and there are many myths out there regarding poker and poker players.
Myth number one
Many people think that ace poker players bluff often. This may not always be true, though. Bluffing is fun and it is an important strategy but the best poker players do not bluff much more than regular ones.
Myth number two
Some people believe that they would have better luck if they change the site they play on. This won’t help at all: every online casino uses random number generators so it is unlikely that players would experience any real, testable luck at a particular casino.
Myth number three
There is a big concern that bots can play as well, or better than, humans. This is definitely not true for poker, though it may be true for games such as chess.
Myth number four
There’s a comforting phrase that many bust poker players have heard over the years – Don’t worry, everyone goes bust from time to time.
While the sentiments are good, the philosophy and accuracy behind it aren’t as good: not every poker player goes bust and not every player loses money with every game.
Myth number five
Have you ever heard someone say that they consistently lose when they play against a bad player? This is another one of those myths that refuse to die. It is not true that one’s luck can change for the worse when playing against a bad player.
Myth number six
It is truly unbelievable that there are still people who believe poker requires no skill whatsoever. Strategy and skill are what make poker the game it is. It isn’t possible to play a decent game of poker without invoking the strategy and skill twins.
Myth number seven
The best player always wins. This may be one of the nicest myths out there. The best player, just as the best athlete or the best debater, doesn’t always win. It’s probably unpalatable to the great poker playersbut if nothing else, it should give mediocre and bad players the hope they need to beat the great ones.
I really super duper highly suggest you go through the tutorial before going through freeplay. First, you will not be able to play the other modes anyway until you play some of the tutorial first. Second, you will probably miss a lot of important information about the game’s mechanics that could ultimately help your settlers thrive such as taking advantage of symbiosis and specializations. Lastly, because the game can get complex, the tutorial will give you a nice breakdown of how the game works.
You can pretty much see the influence Black and White 2 gave the game in terms of using Giants to do the Gods/Goddesses wishes. I want to make clear however, that that is pretty much where the similarities end. You will find in the interview that the game, and I am guessing the use of giants as well; was also influenced by this awesome short story animation (which was the inspiration of the game, you all should watch it). Now, couple things about these cute giants. First is that each giants have their own type of terraforming depending on what kind of giants they are, such as: Swamp, Ocean, Mountain, and Forest. The other thing is, you must have each giant work together to really help the settlers prosper in their civilization.
Here they are in case you guys want to see how they look like:
Mountain Giant! I just noticed he got photobombed here
As you progress in the game, your giants gain new aspects. Aspects are basically abilities that buffs up the floras, faunas, and minerals you plopped down in a number of ways, such as giving it another trait. Ex: Enhancing a peppermint tree with the herb aspect would give it the food trait. Not only that, if you used the right aspect on whatever it is you are using it on, it may even give it the power of transmutation (you will read about transmutation below).
This opening scene made me aww…then it made me all grrr towards my fellow humans.
The Opening Scene
I want to talk about the opening scene first because I really think it is something worth watching. The art style for me was personally cute with its caveman/child-like drawings, but the story it conveys is a serious issue and I think, something to be seen because it is true. What I mean is, even though we do not really have giants magically terraforming the earth to help us, we ARE still hurting mother nature with our greed for the resource. I know I may sound like a hippie or tree hugger but we are over harvesting and overusing natural resources faster than the time earth can recuperate and as the opening scene shows, when civilizations get greedy, we do wage war against neighbors. I understand some people may say, well it is just an opening scene, calm the heck down. However, I really appreciate that it shows those things and the game’s mechanics covers that. It makes it more real for me.
Reus opted for a 2D side scrolling graphic style which I actually found lovely, clean, and refreshing. If you guys played that iPhone game called Goldfinger, it will remind you of that. I personally like it this way because you focus more on the game content than beastly graphics. Plus, just look at the Giants!!! I want one
I really hope they make little plushies because I would totally collect em’ all
My Personal Opinion Concerning The HUD and Font Size
This is my personal issue, maybe others also have it, but I find the font too small that it strains my eyes after a little bit. I do however like the game’s HUD because I find it informative yet it’s still clean. What I mean is that some complex games tend to overdo it with the information they try to cram on the screen and it can be overwhelming to new players. I’ve actually met people who quit the game they want to play just by staring at HUDs like that. Reus may not be complex to some, but the ones I’ve talked to who played the game told me it is, so this is something they probably appreciate. Another thing is, feel free to correct me if I missed it; is that there seem to be no indicator whether symbiosis and specialization is active or not. I only know it is because I try to remember how much each things originally gave (food, wealth, tech) and then I check if they’re higher. To those who have not played Reus, this may be confusing, but don’t worry I’ll break it down for ya in a bit.
A 2d side scrolling god game that shares some similar concepts with one of my most favorite games of all time, Black and White 2. However, instead of having totally devout humans, in Reus, no matter how benevolent you are, greed may make them turn on you and each other. Such is human nature.
An Indie god game Review Developed by: Abbey Games
My village is still a baby~ (Restarted 5x)
NOTICE: Interview with one of the developers will be at the end of the review. Personally, I found the developers answers inspirational. Personally, it gave me the nudge I need to finally start working on my own indie game. I also found that it can be applied to life challenges.
Shoutout of Gratitude: I want to thank the developers of Reus for the interview. Thank you for giving this new blogger your time even though I knew you guys were probably having a very busy and hectic week since I contacted you guys around the time you just launched. I also want to say I’m so happy with all the positive feedbacks you have received and want to say this is one of my favorite games to play at the moment. Hugs to you all!
What got me interested: I am actually a huge fan of good games. I just absolutely love them! I like having the power over civilizations and taking care of them with all the kindness and love every benevolent god bestow upon their people. I also love to save the game, then start smiting left and right as I maniacally laugh in front of my computer which not only baffles those by me, but I was told it also scared them. As mentioned, I love Black and White 2, and I still believe to this day nothing can really compare to that game when it comes to the god game genre. I’ve been looking around the internet and waiting for a game that will even come close to BW2. Seems like my patience paid off with this game. It did not only gave me a BW2 nostalgia but it also gave me a whole new experience which I totally appreciate because as much as I love BW2, I still also yearn for something that’s different and can stand on its own. I personally think Reus has that capability.
